Hoka Clifton 9 vs. Hoka Clifton 10

Hoka Clifton 9 vs. Hoka Clifton 10: My Personal Experience

I’ve been a loyal fan of the Hoka Clifton series since version 2. These shoes have been my go-to for training and races because of their soft ride and unique rocker design that supports my stride. However, after transitioning to the Hoka Clifton 10, I have to say I’ve been a bit disappointed with the changes.

Ride Quality

One of the first things I noticed with the Clifton 10 was the ride quality. The plush feel that I came to love has diminished significantly. Instead of the soft, cushioned landing I expected, I found the ride to be much harder. This was surprising to me because it felt like a step back in terms of comfort.

Traction Issues

Another aspect where the Clifton 10 didn’t quite meet my expectations was the grip. I always appreciated the reliable traction that the Clifton 9 and earlier versions offered. Unfortunately, the 10 seems to have compromised on this front. During my runs, I noticed that I was slipping more on wet surfaces than I ever did in the 9, which made me feel a bit uneasy.

Recommendations

Given my experiences, I would recommend sticking with the Hoka Clifton 9 if you can find a pair. They provide the soft ride and dependable grip that I have grown accustomed to over the years. Alternatively, if you’re willing to wait, I would suggest holding out for the Clifton 11. With some time, I hope Hoka will address the shortcomings of the 10.

Final Thoughts

  • Clifton 9 offers better cushioning and grip.
  • Clifton 10 has a harder ride and reduced traction.
  • Consider waiting for future releases for potential improvements.

Running shoes are such a personal choice, but these are my insights based on my experiences with both versions. I hope it helps fellow runners make an informed decision!
