SVN Annoucement about the winding down of SVN in September 2024
An SVN update, or to be precise, an outline as to the winding down of SVN. As many of you will have noticed the number of events that SVN have put on over the last couple of years has been reduced and in 2023 and 2024 they're going to be reduced further to the point that September 2024 will feature the final SVN events.
Betteshanger Country Park, near Deal in East Kent hosts it's annual Christmas marathon. It has a two mile tarmac cycle track, with leisure paths for cycling and walking through established woodlands, wetlands and reed beds full of unusual wildlife and a wide gently undulating (more of a slope) trail around the edge. The course is traffic free and ideal for a gentle trail run.
The race isn't totally flat but more 'sloping undulations' with some lovely woods to run through, grasslands, wetlands and ponds.
If its wet it might be a little muddy but the trails are high quality and drain well.
Course Information
Depending on the weather on the day there is either a 4.37 mile loop or a 5.25 mile loop making it 6 or 5 for the marathon distance. Both versions are based on this route. (The 5.25 mile version has a simple out and back add on towards the entrance on a wide tarmac pavement).
The route is suitable for both road and trail shoes.
