Race Description:
The Edinburgh Marathon is a fast and flat course that finishes at Pinkie Playing Fields. Starting on Potterrow, the city centre start takes you through the heart of Edinburgh.
Runners pass Greyfriars Bobby and also take in the National Museum of Scotland before heading over the High Street and down The Mound. Marathon participants then go past the Scottish National Gallery and into Princes Street Gardens, with Edinburgh Castle setting the view. The course then goes past the Scott Monument, down the historic Royal Mile, heading towards the Scottish Parliament building. Along the journey you can look up at the spectacular Arthurs Seat and Salisbury Crags, as well as the Palace of Holyrood, before departing the Royal Park and heading east towards the coast.
Runners continue on the coastal route past the oldest golf course in the world at Musselburgh, before heading further East on the flat to Gosford House, a neo-classical mansion which was a commission of the Scots architect, Robert Adam. The route then turns and heads back along the coast to the finish line ahead. The Edinburgh has a descent of almost 90 metres to near sea level.
