Race Description:

The authentic Athens marathon follows a route from Marathon to Athens. It finishes in the Olympic stadium. It does of course symbolise the run of Pheidippides who went from the battlefield at Marathon back to Athens to declare victory and died upon arrival in Athens after delivering his news.

Cancellations are accepted for the marathon for a fee until a specific date. There are no deferals to enter the following year's event. Residents of the UK have to pay a fee of 100 euro but EU residents can pay 45 euro. The 100 euro fee does include extras e.g. a backpack and travel card. 

Transportation to the marathon race start is provided from Athens centre from 6 different places. The shuttles run from 5.30am up until 6.45am. You can also make your own way to Marathon but it is advisable to be there early due to road closures.
