Race Description
The Belfast City Marathon starts from the Stormont Estate, located on Prince of Wales Avenue. The marathon course is predominantly flat, offering a road surface suitable for both competitive and recreational runners. The route passes through notable landmarks and areas within Belfast, providing a varied and scenic experience over the full 26.2 miles (42.195 kilometers).
The 2026 edition of the race sold out on the 2nd November 2025, just over 6 months before the actual race date!
The exact course begins at the Stormont Estate, proceeding through several key points in the city before returning to the finish line. Runners will navigate well-marked turns and stretches that balance urban scenery with open parkland, highlighting Belfast’s cityscape and surrounding environs.
Water and aid stations are positioned strategically along the route to support participants’ hydration and nutrition needs. These stations are located at miles 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, and 24, offering water, electrolyte drinks, and medical assistance if required.
The race features official cut-off times to ensure runner safety and course management. Participants are expected to maintain a minimum pace consistent with a six-hour finishing time; therefore, runners must complete the marathon within six hours from the start. Aid stations and course marshals will monitor progress accordingly.
Registration closes two weeks prior to race day or when the participant limit is reached. Runners are advised to complete their registration early to secure a place.
Parking is available near the start area at Stormont Estate, with additional options in nearby public car parks within Belfast city centre. Public transport services operate regular routes to and from the event locations, including buses and trains, to facilitate access for participants and spectators.
Race amenities for finishers include a commemorative medal and a technical race t-shirt. Refreshment stations are available both during and after the race to offer food and drinks for recovery. Medical tents and first aid personnel are stationed at designated points along the route and at the finish line to provide assistance if needed.
The Belfast City Marathon route takes in the 4 areas of Belfast - the North, South, East and West, starting at Stormont Estate and finishing in Ormeau Park. There will be 8 water stations available in total, approximately every 5km along the marathon route. Each water station will provide new smaller 220ml bottles of Deep RiverRock.
The Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon is an AIMS certified race.
