Race Description
The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon offers a marathon distance of 42.2 kilometers, with a well-designed course that predominantly features urban landscapes and scenic coastal views. The terrain is primarily flat, which is ideal for both competitive racers and those seeking a personal best. Elevation changes are minimal, ensuring a less taxing run, with the overall elevation gain around 100 meters. The surface consists mainly of asphalt, contributing to a smooth running experience.
The race begins at the Nelson Mandela Boulevard, with the starting point located at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), specifically at the address: 1 Lower Long St, Cape Town. The marathon route takes participants through notable landmarks including the V&A Waterfront, the iconic Table Mountain, and along the picturesque Sea Point promenade, providing a vibrant backdrop throughout the race.
Water and aid stations are strategically placed to support runners, with available refreshments at kilometers 3, 7, 12, 16, 21, 26, 30, and 35. Each station will offer water, isotonic drinks, and energy gels. The organizers aim to ensure that runners remain hydrated and energized throughout the event. Additionally, first aid services will be available at various checkpoints along the course.
The finish line is located back at the CTICC, where participants will receive their medals and can enjoy post-race refreshments. The time limit for completing the marathon is set at six hours, requiring runners to maintain a minimum pace of 8:30 minutes per kilometer to avoid disqualification.
Registration fees for the marathon are as follows: Early Bird Registration is priced at R650, Standard Registration at R850, and Late Registration (within 2 weeks of the event) at R1,000. Participants are encouraged to register before the deadline in order to secure their spots for this prestigious event.
For race day, parking is available at the CTICC and adjacent locations, with additional public transport options including the MyCiTi bus service, which offers convenient connections to the city center. It is recommended to arrive early to ensure a smooth entry into the race venue.
All finishers will receive a commemorative medal, and participants will be provided with official race t-shirts as part of their registration. Complimentary refreshments await at the finish area, featuring a variety of snacks and beverages to celebrate the finishers’ achievements.
