SEE OUR FULL CHESTER MARATHON RACE REVIEW HERE - A fantastic event, superbly organised.
The MBNA Chester Marathon is a must do on any marathon runners calendar. Catering for runners of all levels, the organisers are runners themselves and they have the drive and passion to arrange a fabulous race with many runners returning year on year. This is a PB marathon course which takes place on closed roads with 19 miles being in England and 7 miles in Wales, a multi country marathon! The race takes in many of Chester's iconic landmarks including the Cathedral, Medieval Rows, Roman Wells, the Amphitheatre and the historical Eastgate Clock. The race then heads out into the Cheshire and North Wales stunning countryside, returning along the River Dee and back to the racecourse. The support along the whole of the course will keep your spirits lifted along with bands, music and entertainment.
There are drinks stations every 2.5 to 3 miles with bottled water at all 9 stations. Lucozade Sport drink and High5 Energy Aqua gels are also available along the route. Chip timing is available at 10k, 20k, 30k and 40k along with social media athlete tracking, so you can share your progress with your family and friends. All finishers will receive that all important medal, a super goodie bag and a technical T-shirt.
Some good advice from the Chester Marathon pacing team https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZrEnSaRd38
If you are not able to participate in the race there are no refunds and you cannot swap to another race (e.g. the metric marathon), however you can transfer your race entry to someone else. This is our only quibble with the race, it would be good if they offered a deferral option to next year's race.

Chester Marathon Route Elevation Profile
The Chester marathon is quite a flat course, the first half is quicker than the second though. The second half has a couple of little hills at the end.
