Race Description
The Cirencester Half Marathon offers runners a scenic route through the charming landscapes surrounding Cirencester, featuring a mix of urban and rural terrain. The course is 13.1 miles in distance, with a diverse blend of flat sections ideal for faster paces, along with rolling hills that add some challenge. The elevation gain across the entire course is approximately 300 feet, providing participants with a moderate but manageable increase in difficulty.
The race will start and finish at the Cirencester Park, located at Cotswold District Council, Cirencester, GL7 1PX, United Kingdom. The initial route departs from the park, weaving through the town's historical streets before transitioning into quieter country roads. Key landmarks along the route include the Cirencester Abbey grounds and the picturesque gardens of the Cirencester Park. Runners will encounter turn points labeled at noticeable markers like Eagle House and the iconic Church of St. John the Baptist.
Course Map
The course map is designed for optimal navigation, clearly marking turnaround points, aid stations, and elevation changes. A detailed course map will be provided to all registered participants prior to the race day.
Hydration is crucial during the event, and water stations will be conveniently located at miles 4, 8, and 11. These stations will offer not only water but also energy drinks and energy gels to support runners throughout the race.
The event has a cut-off time of 3 hours, which translates to a pace requirement of around 13 minutes and 45 seconds per mile. Runners who do not meet this pace may incur time limits at designated checkpoints along the route.
Entry fees for the race are set at £30 for individuals and £25 for affiliated club members. Registration closes one month before the race, making it March 30, 2024, the final day for sign-ups. Early registration is recommended to secure a spot in this popular half marathon.
For those traveling to the race, ample parking is available near the start/finish location at Cirencester Park. Participants are encouraged to use public transport options where available, considering the ecological benefits and local traffic. Detailed parking information will be shared in pre-race communications.
Race day amenities include finisher medals, official race t-shirts for participants, and post-race refreshments, which will be available to all runners. Spectators are also encouraged to enjoy the festivities surrounding the start and finish areas as runners complete their challenges.
