Race Description:
The famous Great North Run was put back to it's original route for 2022, starting on the A167 Central Motorway, super close to the southern side of the Town Moor. The finish line is on the seafront in South Shields where you'll be welcomed by rapturous screams and applause.
The route passes along the amazing Tyne Bridge where you can marvel at the fabulous location and number of runners around you (fancy dress of course is optional but a huge giggle for everyone), following along the main dual carriageway there are supporters in abundance, with bands playing, water being sprayed and very generous locals handing out jelly babies, orange pieces and a feast of other options to the well deserved runners.
The last mile runs along the seafront at South Shields with the finish line getting closer with every step you take.
The atmosphere of the day making up the Great North Run is impossible to put into words. The comradery along the course, the spectators who cheer you on in their thousands and the support staff and crew all make the Great North Run a race which all should experience (or so we think!)
Mo Farah ran his last competitive race here in 2023.
