Race Description:
The Harry Gamble-Thompson 20Ten is a 20 mile race with a 10 mile option. This race used to be called the Locke Park 20Ten and has been renamed in honour of a New Marske Harriers member. The race format is a one mile loop for 20 laps. The race organisers report that the lap has been improved by replacing the "hairpin" bend with a much smoother couple of left hand ones, and added a new path to make up lap to a certified 1 mile. The finish is into the tennis courts.
The 20ten could be used as a preparation race for a spring marathon - there are advantages to multi lap races as it is an opportunity to practice your "even pace" or "negative splits". The organisers will record and publish your mile splits. The toilets and water station are passed once a mile, and if you have someone supporting they can shout you on once or twice each lap.
This is essentially a 20 mile race with a 10 mile option - The default entry is for 20 Miles. You can only change your entry to 10 miles on the day - you decide any time up to 9.9 miles, but if you pull out after 10 miles you will considered as DNF.
