Race Description
The Isle of Man Marathon is a road running event held on the Isle of Man featuring a marathon distance route with a mix of terrain and scenic landmarks. The course surface is primarily paved roads with some gentle hills, offering moderate elevation changes suitable for intermediate to experienced runners. The total elevation gain and loss is approximately 350 feet, with rolling hills predominantly in the first half of the course and a generally flatter finish.
The marathon begins at the Villa Marina, located at The Promenade, Douglas, IM1 2LS. Runners proceed along the scenic Promenade before turning inland, passing through notable waypoints such as the towns of Union Mills and Peel. The route features several turning points, including the halfway marathon mark near St John's. The finish line is located at the National Sports Centre, Glencrutchery Road, Douglas, IM1 1EX. The course is well marked with mile and kilometer markers to aid pacing throughout the event.
Water and aid stations are strategically positioned along the course at miles 4, 8, 11, 15, 18, 21, and 24. These stations provide runners with water, sports drinks, and basic first aid support. Additional refreshments are available at the finish line. Cut-off times are enforced to ensure safety and efficient race management; runners must maintain a minimum pace equivalent to a 6.5-hour finish time. Participants failing to meet these pacing requirements may be asked to withdraw from the course for safety reasons.
Parking is available near the start and finish areas, including nearby public car parks in Douglas. Public transport options include local bus services connecting major towns with the start/finish venues.
Race amenities include a finisher medal awarded to all participants completing the marathon. A technical t-shirt is provided as part of the race pack collected during bib pick-up. Runners also have access to post-race refreshments and medical support at the venue. The event is chip-timed to provide accurate results for each participant.
