Race Description
The Kaunas Marathon offers a scenic running experience through the heart of Lithuania's second-largest city, Kaunas. Runners can choose from multiple distances, including a full marathon (42.195 km), half marathon (21.097 km), 10K, and 5K options, as well as a family-friendly 1.5K run. Each route showcases Kaunas's rich history and diverse architecture, from medieval to modernist styles.
The marathon itself begins at the City Hall, notable for its 16th-century design, and winds through key city landmarks such as the 14th-century Kaunas Castle and the confluence of the Neris and Nemunas rivers. The course is predominantly flat with minimal elevation changes, making it accessible for runners of all abilities.
Throughout the marathon, participants will encounter several water stations, strategically located at miles 4, 8, and 11, ensuring runners stay hydrated as they navigate the route. Aid stations are also present, offering refreshments that include energy gels and fruit.
The start and finish lines for the marathon are located at the Kaunas City Hall, situated at Maironio g. 8, Kaunas. Runners have a 6-hour time limit to complete the marathon, requiring a minimum pace of approximately 8:34 minutes per kilometer.
The entry fees vary depending on the chosen race distance. For the full marathon, the fee is approximately €35 if registered before the deadline. The half marathon costs around €25, while the 10K and 5K options range from €10 to €20. It is important to register online by the specified deadline, which is typically a few weeks before the event.
Transportation options for participants include public transit, with several bus and tram stops conveniently located near the start/finish area. Additionally, limited parking is available at designated spots around the city center, though runners are encouraged to arrive early to secure a space.
Participants can expect several race amenities, such as finisher medals for all distances, high-quality event t-shirts, and refreshments at the finish line to help athletes replenish after the race. Additional post-race festivities often include live music and entertainment, enhancing the overall experience for both participants and spectators.
