Race Description
The Leith Hill Half Marathon is a challenging cross-country race, taking participants on a scenic journey from Dorking to the summit of Leith Hill, the highest point in south-eastern England, and back. The race features a total distance of 13.1 miles, with an overall elevation gain of approximately 1,800 feet, providing a demanding yet rewarding experience for runners of all levels.
The course starts at The Priory School, located at West Bank, Dorking, Surrey, RH4 3DG. From the race headquarters, the route initially climbs along footpaths and bridleways, passing through the charming village of Westcott. Runners will navigate a left turn, ascending the rural byway of Wolvens Lane towards the Plough Pub in Coldharbour. A sharp right turn leads runners up the final ascent to Leith Hill Tower, where expansive views await on clear days. Upon reaching the tower, the course retraces the path back to Dorking, allowing participants to engage with fellow competitors along the way.

The race will feature four water stations located at miles 2, 5, 8, and 11, providing adequate hydration and refreshments throughout the run. Specific amenities include jellies and other snacks at aid stations, enhancing the overall experience.
Elevation Profile

The route is primarily hilly, presenting varied terrain composed of trails, dirt paths, and rural byways. The elevation changes create a tough running challenge that requires preparation and endurance.
Participants must complete the half marathon within a specified time limit of three hours. A minimum pace requirement will be enforced, ensuring all runners adhere to the timeline. It is critical for entrants to be aware that registration fees are set at £39. Interested runners should register before the deadline, which is three weeks prior to race day.
Parking will be limited, and runners are encouraged to utilize public transport or carpool to reduce environmental impact. Race HQ will also provide information regarding local transport options to facilitate access to the starting point.
All finishers will receive a commemorative medal that doubles as a reusable coaster, along with a bottle of local beer. A full cooked English breakfast, with vegetarian options available, will be served to all participants following the race. For those interested, a branded Finisher running T-shirt with personalized names will be available for pre-purchase during registration.
Proceeds from the race will support Mid Surrey Community Fridges, a local charity dedicated to distributing surplus food to the community. This commitment to supporting local initiatives aligns with the race’s efforts to minimize its carbon footprint and promote sustainability.
The Leith Hill Half Marathon is a well-organized event that combines scenic running with community spirit, providing an excellent challenge for both seasoned runners and new trail enthusiasts.
