Race Description
The Málaga Marathon offers participants a scenic route through the vibrant city of Málaga, featuring a mix of urban landscapes and coastal views. The marathon distance is 42.195 kilometers, following a predominantly flat course designed to facilitate fast finishing times. The elevation gain is minimal, ideal for both seasoned marathoners and beginners.
The race begins at the iconic Plaza de la Constitución, located at Plaza de la Constitución, 29005 Málaga, Spain. From here, runners will traverse various neighborhoods, passing notable landmarks such as the Alcazaba, the Cathedral of Málaga, and the bustling port area. The route leads onto the coastal promenade, offering picturesque sea views and refreshing breezes.
The course will include multiple turn points, ensuring an engaging experience throughout the race. Specific turn points include:
- Turning left at Calle Larios
- Crossing the bridge at Puente de la Misericordia
- Returning along the beachfront before heading back to the city center
The marathon will feature several water and aid stations at regular intervals to support participants. Water stations are strategically located at kilometers 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25, with additional aid stations providing energy gels and electrolyte drinks at kilometers 12, 18, and 30.
The finish line will be situated back at Plaza de la Constitución, providing a festive atmosphere as runners conclude their journey and are awarded medals upon completion.
The time limit for completing the marathon is set at 5 hours, requiring participants to maintain an average pace of at least 7:06 minutes per kilometer. Runners must respect these limits to ensure safety and proper course closure.
Entry fees for the Málaga Marathon vary based on registration dates. Early registration costs €60, with fees increasing closer to the event date. The final deadline for registration is three weeks before the race, with no race day registrations available.
Parking options include the nearby parking garage at Calle Alameda, which accommodates a significant number of vehicles. Additionally, public transport, including buses and trains, conveniently connects to the city center, making it accessible for both competitors and spectators.
Race amenities include custom finisher medals and specialized performance t-shirts for all participants. Complimentary refreshments, including fruits and energy snacks, will be available at the finish line to aid recovery.
