Established in 1991, the marathon is one of the most popular in France being only second in line to the Marathon de Paris held in the Spring.
Following the sudden death of the race founder and president of the organising committee, Serge Vigot, the event was officially renamed the Marathon De La Rochelle - Serge Vigot in his honour.
In 2011 the race held the IAAF Bronze Label Road status. The race is based through the historical streets and central port areas of La Rochelle with fabulous views of the 2 towers from the quai Valin.
With a double-looped figure of 8 format and a flat race profile it is a great race for a PB.
Many of the runners are French, but it is also popular with other European visitors due to it's late timing in the year and has roaring support from the crowds along the route.
