Race Description
The Marsala Marathon is designed for runners looking for a scenic and challenging experience. The course traverses a mix of flat and rolling terrain along the beautiful coastal landscape of Marsala, Sicilia. The initial section is predominantly flat, making it conducive for a strong start, but participants will encounter rolling hills after the halfway point. The total elevation gain for the marathon is approximately 200 meters, with similar elevation loss, presenting a balanced challenge throughout the event.
The exact route begins at the historic Piazza della Repubblica, located at Via Garibaldi 1, 91025 Marsala, and finishes at the same location, creating a looped course. Runners will pass by iconic landmarks including the stunning Marsala salt pans, offering picturesque views, as well as the ancient ruins of Punic Shipyards situated at approximately the 15-kilometer mark. Runners will also navigate through local vineyards, providing a glimpse of the region's famous wine culture.
Water and aid stations are strategically placed throughout the course to ensure participants remain hydrated and energized. Aid stations are located at miles 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20, stocked with water, electrolytes, and light snacks. The final station, at mile 24, will offer extra support as runners approach the finish line.
Participants must reach the finish line within a time limit of 6 hours. This requires maintaining a minimum pace of approximately 13:45 per mile (8:35 per kilometer). Any runners falling behind may be asked to exit the course for safety reasons.
The entry fee for the Marsala Marathon is set at €60 for early registration until one month prior to the event. After this deadline, the registration fee increases to €80. Online registration is available until two weeks before the race day, and in-person registration will be offered until the day before the race.
Parking is available near the start and finish location at Piazza della Repubblica. Local transport options include buses connecting to Marsala from major nearby cities, with details available closer to the event date.
Race amenities include a custom finisher’s medal for all participants, a technical t-shirt, and post-race refreshments featuring local delicacies. All participants can look forward to a supportive atmosphere and a comprehensive experience reflecting the charm of the Marsala region.
