Race Description:

A 14 mile race against a train!

The 'Race the Train' event takes place mainly alongside the route taken by the Talyllyn Railway on its journey to Abergynolwyn and back. To do this a mixture of public roads, lanes, un-metalled roads, tracks, agricultural land, and rough grazing pastures are run over. The terrain varies all the time and can be wet and muddy in places.

The race also ascends and descends quite steep terrain and goes on narrow footpaths with little chance of overtaking. Often the Train, or for many runners the track, is just over the fence.

In many places if you can keep up with the train your family and friends, if riding on the train, will be able to spot you.

The race is marshalled, well signed, and provided with refreshment / water points along the way. There are several race distances that can be attempted but only the Rotary Challenge (approx 14m) and the Quarry Challenge (approx 10km) race actual trains.

The second half of the race is tougher than the first so you must be well ahead of the train at the halfway point to beat it to the finish.

More course details can be found at http://www.racethetrain.com/course-rotary-challenge/

Very good runners can normally BEAT THE TRAIN that takes approximately 1 Hour 48 minutes. There is a time limit of 3 hours 15 minutes to complete the course.

The goody bag contains a medal and a Tee-shirt and a variety of other items.
