Race Description
Tenerife Half Marathon Race Description
The Tenerife Half Marathon, held annually, features a course that is primarily flat with only a few slight inclines. This makes it suitable for both novice and experienced runners. The race begins at the iconic Plaza de España in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, known for its vibrant atmosphere and beautiful surroundings.
Course Map and Elevation Profile
The 21-kilometer course leads runners through several key landmarks in Santa Cruz. Starting at Plaza de España, the first few kilometers take participants along the scenic waterfront, passing by the Auditorio de Tenerife. The route then continues inland toward the Parque García Sanabria and loops back towards the coast. Highlights include the historic Calle del Castillo and the beautiful Parque Marítimo César Manrique.
There are slight elevation changes throughout the course, with an elevation gain of approximately 100 meters and a loss of the same amount, which occurs mainly during the return leg along the waterfront.
Runners will encounter water stations at key intervals—specifically at miles 4, 8, and 11. These stations offer hydration and energy supplements to help maintain performance.
Start and Finish Locations
The race starts at Plaza de España, located at the coordinates 28.4565° N, 16.2543° W. The finish line is also at the same location, allowing for convenient access for spectators and participants alike.
Cut-off Times and Pace Requirements
Participants must complete the race within a 3-hour time limit, translating to an average pace of approximately 8:34 minutes per kilometer. This ensures that all runners can finish safely and receive appropriate event support.
Entry Fees and Registration Deadlines
The entry fee for the Half Marathon is €30 if registered before the early bird deadline, which is typically set three months prior to the event. After this, the registration fee increases to €40. Participants must register by the cut-off date, usually two weeks before race day.
Parking and Transport Options
Parking is available at multiple locations near the Plaza de España, including a large public garage just a short walk from the start/finish area. Public transport options include local buses and the tram network, both of which service central Santa Cruz effectively.
Race Amenities
All participants receive a finisher's medal and a technical t-shirt. Refreshments post-race include water, isotonic drinks, and snacks, located at the finish area to help runners recover. Additional amenities include medical support available throughout the course for any emergencies.
