Race Description
The Tenerife Half Marathon is conducted on a diverse course featuring a combination of flat and mildly undulating terrain. The route is primarily on paved surfaces, suitable for road running, with slight elevation changes characteristic of the island's landscape. Runners should be prepared for gentle ascents and descents throughout the course.
The race starts at the Plaza de España, located in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, at address Plaza de España, 38003 Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain. From the start, the course moves through the central streets of Santa Cruz, passing notable landmarks including the Auditorio de Tenerife and Parque García Sanabria. The route extends along the coast, providing intermittent sea views, continuing towards the district of La Salle. Runners will reach the turnaround point near the intersection of Avenida Luis Morote and Calle Imeldo Serís before heading back toward the city center. The finish line is positioned at the Plaza de España, the same as the start location, allowing for a looped race layout.
Water and aid stations are strategically located along the course to support runners. Stations are placed at approximately kilometers 5, 10, 15, and 20. These stations offer hydration and medical support as needed. Additional refreshments, including energy gels and fruits, may also be available at some stations.
Cut-off times are strictly enforced to ensure safety and logistic coordination. Participants must complete the race within 3 hours and 30 minutes. This equates to maintaining a minimum pace of approximately 10 minutes per kilometer. Runners falling behind the cut-off will be asked to exit the course and use alternative transport arranged by race officials.
Entry fees vary by registration period. Early registration costs 30 euros, regular registration is 40 euros, and late registration up to the deadline is 50 euros. The registration deadline is set approximately two weeks prior to race day or earlier if maximum capacity is reached. Additional fees may apply for services such as timing chips or race kits.
Parking options near the start/finish area include public parking facilities at Calle Méndez Núñez and underground parking at Multiuso Santa Cruz. Public transportation offers convenient access, with multiple bus lines servicing the city center and connections from Tenerife North and Tenerife South airports. Participants are encouraged to plan their arrival accordingly to avoid congestion on race day.
The race amenities provided include an official finisher medal for all runners completing the course within the time limit. Registered participants receive a technical race t-shirt in their entry package. Post-race refreshments are available at the finish area, including bottled water, isotonic drinks, and light snacks to aid recovery. Medical services and baggage storage are also provided at the start/finish zone for participant convenience.
The elevation profile shows mild variations with no extreme climbs, suitable for runners seeking a moderately challenging course that combines urban and coastal landscapes of Tenerife.
