Race Description
The Vilnius Marathon offers a unique running experience through the heart of Lithuania's capital. The course features a predominantly flat terrain that makes it accessible to both seasoned marathoners and newcomers. Runners will traverse a mix of paved city streets and scenic pathways, presenting a variety of surfaces throughout the race.
Course Map
The marathon begins at the iconic Vilnius Cathedral, located at Cathedral Square, Vilnius. Participants will proceed past notable landmarks such as the National Museum of Lithuania, the Gate of Dawn, and the beautiful banks of the Neris River. The route includes several turn points to accommodate its layout, ensuring participants have ample opportunity to enjoy the city's rich history and vibrant architecture.
Runners will complete a loop that leads them back to the finish line at the same location, providing an easy return route. The marathon route is designed to minimize elevation changes, with gentle inclines that only slightly increase the challenge.
Elevation Profile
The elevation gain for the marathon is approximately 100 meters, providing a mild challenge, particularly suited for those aiming to achieve personal bests or complete their first marathon.
Water and aid stations are conveniently located at regular intervals along the course. Specifically, aid stations will be available at kilometers 5, 10, 15, and 20, offering water, electrolyte drinks, and light snacks to help sustain runners throughout the race.
The exact cut-off time for finishing the marathon is set at 6 hours. Participants are advised to maintain an average pace of 8.5 minutes per kilometer to ensure completion within this timeframe.
Registration fees for the marathon are as follows: €50 for early registration, €70 for standard registration, and €100 for on-the-day registration. Registration deadlines typically close two weeks before the race day. Runners are encouraged to register early to secure their spots and benefit from the lower fees.
For transportation, parking is available at various locations near the cathedral, but public transport is encouraged due to potential congestion on race day. Bus and tram services link directly to the city center, providing easy access to the start line.
Participants will receive commemorative finisher's medals and official T-shirts, made from moisture-wicking materials for comfort during the race. Post-race refreshments will include a selection of fruits, energy bars, and beverages to help runners recover after their accomplishment.
