Race Start Date Calculator

Use the calculator below to easily find the date on which you start your training plan for whatever type or length of race you have entered, be it a 10k, half marathon, marathon or even an ultra. Good luck!

1. How long is your training plan in number of weeks?

2. When is the date of your race?

Everybody loves a little help! We’ve created some running and health focused calculators to help you with your training. Calculate your race pace/predicted race pace (in miles and kilometres) and when your training needs to start.

For the health conscious we have a maximum heart rate finder, diabetes checker and you can even calculate your BMI. Using these tools helps you to stay focused on your running and you can see the benefit of your training by returning on a regular basis to check out how you’ve improved!

Maximum Heart Rate Finder

Your theoretical maximum heart rate (MHR) can be determined by entering your age below. The standard method is to take the number 220 and minus from it your age. However, over time more accurate calculations have been compiled. One of the most accurate methods of determining this so far is the Inbar method.

New version of BMI

In a recent article on the bbc it is discussed that the current method is inaccurate.

It has been said of celebrities that even though in their prime they are classed as overweight, for example Brad Pitt in 'Fight Club' and Jonny Wilkinson. Many heavyweight boxers would register as 'obese' even though this is not how they look. For example although BMI works well for many people for elite athletes then maybe not. Anthony Joshua has BMI 28.8 which is overweight which he clearly isn't.

One of the flaws of the current calculation is that it does not differentiate between muscle and fat. Nick Trefethen is the Professor of Numerical Analysis at Oxford University and he believes the current formula is wrong. In a letter to 'The Economist' he stated

'Sir, The body-mass index that you (and the National Health Service) count on to assess obesity is a bizarre measure... As a consequence of this ill-founded definition, millions of short people think they are thinner than they are, and millions of tall people think they are fatter.'

Therefore he has proposed a new formula and further information about his results can be found here - New BMI calculation formula.

What is bmi?

To find out your what your correct body mass index please enter your details in the form above. Your value will then be displayed. The calculator will also tell you what weight you need to lose or gain for a normal BMI value. This can help formluate any calorie controlled diet plan you maybe considering.

Body mass index is a measure of body fat, based on height and weight, that applies to both adult men and women.

The body mass index is a measurement that compares a person's weight and their height. It does not measure the percentage of body fat but it can be a useful method to estimate a healthy body weight based on the height of someone. Due to its ease of use, it is very widely used as diagnostic calculation to identify a weight problem within a group.

Body mass index is defined as the individual's body weight divided by the square of his height. This produce a unit of measure of kg/m2. BMI can also be calculated and shown using a chart, which displays BMI as a function of weight and height using contour lines for different values but in our opinion it is much faster to use our calculator tool to determine your BMI value. One of the best ways to get a healthy bmi value is to take regular exercise and have a balanced diet.
